The Indian Premier League 2014 season will be kick starting sometime in March or April 2014 and this will be the seventh season of the cricket’s richest sporting league tournament. IPL has grown in stature every passing year and has been the most looked forward to event in the cricketing calendar.
IPL Auction Date: The IPL season 7 or Pepsi IPL 2014, named after principal sponsors Pepsi, has a few surprises this year and the surprise starts from the IPL season 7 auction that is to be held on 12th of February 2014 in Bangalore.
The forthcoming IPL season 7 would see IPL player auctions being carried out on a broader scale than before with almost every cricketer to be put in the pool of auctions. The first surprising factor in this year’s IPL auction would be that only nine overseas players can be registered into an IPL team instead of the earlier number of 11. This means that there will be only fewer numbers of foreign players playing the cash rich tournament from 2014. According to the new rules, an IPL team, be it Chennai Super Kings or Mumbai Indians or Royal Challengers Bangalore or any other IPL team, can just have nine foreign players in their squad or less but the number should not exceed 9.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has maintained that IPL is a domestic tournament that aims to promote the domestic Indian players. Now, the 8 teams will have cut down their squads from 33 players to 27 players. Every team will have the option of retaining five players from their present line up and the purchase price for the players at Rs. 60 crores stands as it is.
A new concept during the forthcoming IPL auctions would be the Joker’s card option that allows the franchises the option to retain more players from their existing list. A total of 39 crores can be spent on top five players by every team and this amount will be deducted from the total purse of Rs. 60 crores. Also, the IPL 7 auction 2014 will be the first time when bidding for players will be taking place using Rupees instead of USD. Every franchise owner and the players too are eagerly awaiting the IPL auctions to commence on February 12th and it is expected that this would be the biggest ever IPL auction to take place till date. One thing is sure that there would be a lot of changes in the members of each team for the seventh edition of IPL.
Taking into account the growing popularity of the IPL, the participation of international players is set to grow in IPL 7. With the mix of new and experienced players, the seventh version of the IPL is said to grow bigger and better.
